I got a call from Mike, a Cobra acquaintance, who had met Todd another Cobra owner on the road and they were going to get together for a beer at Famous Eddy's on the south hill, would I like to join them in a couple hours? Sure. I gave Ed a call and he said he would stop by as well. As each of us arrived, adjoining parking spaces opened up in front of the restaurant. (which was all windows, and where we were sitting)

After just a half hour a (real) Shelby Cobra 350 pull up and parks between Ed's and Mike's car and just a few minuets later ANOTHER Cobra roadster cruses the parking lot stops, backs up and pulls in a recently vacated spot next to Todd's car! Out popped Ken, who had just finished his roadster and said 'I shouldn't be driving it, the paints still wet' but could not help but take it out on this great summer evening and just happened upon 5 Cobra's in a row. We gave him the high sign as he entered the restaurant and he asked if this was a "club meeting or something?"

Nope! It just happened. Six in a row. Amazing!

west of town last weekend, let me tell you

that's a lot of Mustangs, rows and rows of

Mustangs, but fun to see. We took a

few cars to break it up.

We drove the Daytona Saturday, it was received well.

and I asked him to machine brass mounts

for the Speedster's tank pressure pump.

They work great and look good.

Wanting to soften lines of the rear of the Speedster I though

I would use a bit of a brass as a garnish.

Using craft paper and masking tape to build a form.

Layed out on a brass sheet.

Sheet cut out.

Creasing a straight line in the tin.

Using the wheel to get a wider radius an

develop a some-what compounded base.

Cutting the profile wayyy back.

Mounted

Headlight sits to high, blocks most of the radiator

anyway and the look is too centered.

This shot looks like the lamp is lowered but

the bracket need to be re-bent and reversed. Should

drop the lamp another 5 to 6 inches.

Found a hardtop on Ebay for not much money, it need a complete rebuild

re-fiberglassed, new headliner, new hardware but the

rear plex window is in good shape and should buff out clear.

Traffic congestion in Edwardian London. Filmed in 1903.

Made over 100 years ago, this footage shows a number of scenes shot around central London, taking in locations such as Hyde Park Corner, Parliament Square and Charing Cross Station. We see crowds of people disembarking from a pleasure steamer at Victoria Embankment, pedestrians dodging horse-drawn carriages in Pall Mall and heavy traffic trotting down the Strand. (From BFI Film Archives.)

While the 4 minute clip is interesting in it's self: heavy, heavy traffic lots

of buses, pedestrians, all the advertising, some of the same names as today.

But through all the traffic at the end of the clip just one little auto comes sliding

through the carriages and houses just one little car.

Doing just a little research I came

up with a French built 1903 CGV Coupe Trois Quarts.

The one in the clip is a day driver, without headlights and the horn

is on the opposite side of the grill. The CGV Coupe was later imported to the US.

to sell the future car. None of the money went to the program.

(Kinda like Social Security) without any real cars or factory

the German people sent in their monthly payments and

were sent a stamp for their payment book to be used

someday to purchase a bug. The end of the war was

the end of the program.

Time to thin the herd.

A very well maintained 79 MGB. Peco exhaust, over sized headers, Webber carb, electronic ignition, properly lowered to pre-74 height, Mota Lita style steering wheel, has the factory electronic 5th gear overdrive, roll bar, proper spare, old rear cantilever shocks replaced with new shocks and new coils up front, clean motor compartment, no rust, no tears in the seats, (racing seats available), european style tripod headlights with gravel guards, no cracks in the dash, new tires, new brakepads, comes with car cover. The top is serviceable but should be replaced. Everything else works great even the clock. This is a solid, well balanced sports car and more fun than should be allowed with 1800CC (not the previously mentioned very, very rare 1600CC). After a year and a half of dissembling and
dinking around with this Merc flathead and
finding the block was not rebuild-able
I was back in the search for another flathead.

What I found was this Ford BA flathead motor that
was rebuilt some years ago and never put into service.

The motor came pretty much complete with
a single carb manifold and carb also a few extra
Holly 95 Ford carbs thrown in, I'll have to find
a duel carb manifold and rebuild one of them.

Overall the motor looks to be in great shape.
Now to find something to put it in.

I walked out of work the other day
and this Buick was out of it's car
trailer and being set up for a photo shoot.

Beautiful car.

Portland Swap Meet: Find

I purchased just one old car part, at the swap meet
(the same thing I bought the last time I went 3 years ago)
this old headlamp.

The headlamp originally came from a 1915 Overland,
I know this not of the vendor I bought
it from (he didn't know what car it was from)
but as I was inspecting it at the vendor's
table a nice little man slid up next to me with
a sly smile and said "Do you know what car
that is from" "No" I said "The vendor doesn't
ether" "It's from an Overland"
he proclaimed and moved off.

I found the gentleman wandering
down another isle
after I purchased the head lamp and he
filled me in on the fact he knew the
headlamp's origin because he
owned an 1915 Overland!

So after two days of driving, (there and back)
2 hotel stays* 3 tanks of gas, food, I came back
with an old Overland headlamp.

I found $15 written in grease pencil on
the lamp. The dealer was asking $90, I
got him down to $50 bucks. Sucker!

*After the Portland Swap Meet I called my
friend Scott who was north of Seattle and let
him know I'd drive up from Portland
that afternoon and meet him for dinner and
he should set up reservations for us.
Scott did, at Anthony's in Edmonds. We had
a great dinner and I stayed the night
at the first hotel I ran across just blocks
away from the restaurant. I called for availability from
my car in their parking lot, the desk informed me
they had one room left so I took it.
The next morning in checking out and as
I was walking out to my car I passed a meeting
room, as I glanced in the room who should be
sitting at a conference table closest
to the open door and facing it?
My Dad!
He and my Mom had come to the
Seattle area from Spokane for
a SERRA Conference that weekend.
What are the odds!?

Ed's New Project

Ed is starting a new project with his Dad Bill,
The Factory Five '33 Hot Rod.
Having built his own Factory Five
Cobra roadster two years ago Ed with
his Dad will begin the '33 build this spring.

Ed checking in the twenty-odd boxes
of parts for his just delivered '33 Hot Rod.

The body and frame of the '33.

The body and aluminum panels screwed into
place with the roll bar zip-tied to the frame.
You can see the front end suspension mounts
the car has a very technical suspension system
and will be a very capable track car.

The car is made by Factory Five Racing
of Wareham Massachusetts.
This could be somewhat what the
car will look like when Ed and Bill finish
the car. Factory 5 is the manufacturer of
Ed's Cobra roadster and my
Cobra Daytona Coupe

Portland Swap Meet

The other weekend I took a drive to the Portland Swap Meet.
Usually parking is quite a way from the venue.

But not if you have 15 bucks and a 4 wheel drive
you can park right across the street.

The venue is the Portland Expo center. Four very
large building packed with vendors selling
EVERYTHING for mostly American autos.

Boxes and boxes of NOS ignition components.

I found the first car I ever fell in love with:
"The Deluxe Driver" I was sure every rich kid had one.
I finely ran into one when I was just a little older
and the kid lived in a mobile home in a trailer park.
I got ripped off!

The very large parking lot outside
the buildings were
also used for vendors to show their wares.

A $1500.00 wall hanging perhaps?

How about a small investment to restore a classic?

Yea, that's just about the right chop.

I like hanging around car shows

This is another customers car, he worked on this
for just over a year to produce this beauty.

Still a great chop.

Bike Build: Da Engine

The motor finally arrived the other day.

Dropped it in place along with the tank and rear fender.
It's sitting a little low so it look like we'll have to
fab a bracket to raise it up a few inches.

You can see the head is missing, the motor came
with the wrong head and I sent it off for an exchange.

Thought I'd try and fashion a rear fender, bent up a 3 inch by 17 inch piece of sheet metal.

Pounded it out a bit.

Ran it through the English Wheel and got a nice curve but still need work.

I used and wrote about using the Home Depot web site to
research the compressor I ended up buying,
(see: ADD Garage grows up)
I went back to rate and review the compressor.
After spending sometime registering and writing the review
I submitting the review to the site and was told that the review 'would be posted in the next 7 days'. That was some two weeks ago.
Some how, I think, they didn't like me pointing out
minor flaws in the compressors build and rating it a solid 3 out of 5 which
lucky for them (by not factoring in my rating) they still get to keep their
4.6 rating.
Hmmmm. You don't think their web site is just self serving?

The shop got a big boy compressor, a 60 gallon Husky from Home Depot. Ed was nice enough to help install the new one and cart home his compressor after letting me
borrow it for most of two(!) years.

Now here is something interesting, I used Home Depot's web site to research the compressor purchase. There were a few small problems which were easy over come and just for the fun of it I filled out the review form on the Home Depot site outlining the problems, as I finished the comments and submitted them to the comment list I was informed that it could take up to 7 days to show up! Hmmm. We'll see.

Bike Build: Frame

The frame is a 48'-49' boys Schwinn cruiser.
The old frame came dirty old spray painted silver.

Using a light soda media blast I uncovered
the original red bike with black trim and
silver pin stripe.

The original black over red.

The finished frame cleaned up down to the steel.

The blasting set-up used to strip the frame.

I ended up taking the tank to Rod Builders
and Bob helped me MIG weld it closed.

Worked great, looks great.

Heck, it even fits.

Three sides of the tank.

Tack welded together.

Top piece in place.

Placed in the frame.
It fits!

Now to figure out how to seal up the tank.

So much for it being easy, I could not remove the handle
bars because I snapped off the (I think) headbolt.
I dropped it by the bike shop and Jim was able to get the component free.

I spent the evening pounding and rolling out the sides of the gas tank.

Late 40's Schwinn cruiser.

The idea is to knock down, strip and
rebuild this bike into a
80/66cc motor bicycle.

So far this is pretty easy.

Springer front fork.

Front fork media blasted.

Good thing, found this crack in the fork.

I got the opportunity to "help" Ed and his
Dad install a short shift kit in Ed's Cobra.

I went pretty well Ed unbolted the trans
housing and rotated the shifter a
few degrees and removed the
old shifter.

What a car!

Whilst prousing other auto blogs (looking for images to steal) I ran across a pic from the Hassie car show I posted on Hemmings auto blogs and they said "The folks over at the A.D.D. Garage visited a local tin toy car show and came back with a good set of pictures of the event"

I wondered why I had a bump in viewership from the usual
2 to over 800 and the next day back to 2.
